Chatakpur is a tiny eco-friendly hamlet located within the Senchal Wildlife Sanctuary in the Darjeeling district of West Bengal. Chatakpur, located at an elevation of 7,887 feet, is surrounded by the stunning Kanchenjunga Mountain Range to the north and the beautiful river Relly Khola to the south.
With a population of less than 100 people, the entire setting of this village is surrounded by awe-inspiring lush green forest and raw nature. Sandakphu Peak (11,941 Feet) is the highest peak in West Bengal. The highest peak of Singalila Ridge in Darjeeling district, almost near the border of Nepal, it is located very close to Singalila National Park. You can reach the peak either by car or trekking.
Lying at an altitude of 2590 meters and a distance of 13 kilometres away from the Darjeeling, Tiger Hill is most famous for its dazzling sights of sunrise from where you can see the peaks of Kanchenjunga enlighten before the sun is seen at lower elevations.
Siliguri and this location are 53.7 kilometres apart. Except during the monsoon season (July to mid-September), when the eco-cottages are closed, you can visit Chatakpur at any time of year. The months of November to February can be bitterly cold. Pack plenty of warm clothing for your trip to Chatakpur. In the wilderness of the Kanchenjunga ranges, the eco-village is a breathtaking location. The Forest Department has built two cottages with four double bedded rooms and all modern facilities.
